I purchased this sphere, or globe (whichever the correct term is) recently at an estate sale. The informational card that was with it called it a "4 Inch Glass Crystal Sphere". I don't know if that means it's actually crystal or not and I asked the estate sale company employee, but she didn't know. So, since I don't know how to tell, I can't guarantee that it is crystal.
As for the size, holding a ruler up to it, it measures about 4 inches side to side, so it's one of the larger spheres. For comparison purposes, it's about the size of a softball. It's clear glass with many air bubbles and it's quite heavy. I did wash it using Dawn dish soap, but I didn't get carried away for fear of dropping it. I do feel one scratch, about 1/8th inch long but because of all the bubbles I didn't see it.
It can be used with or without a base as it has a 1.5 inch flat spot on bottom for sitting stationary.
As stated, it is a heavy piece. Shipping will be via USPS Flat Rate packaging. Buyer to pay delivery charges of $13.75.

At checkout, you will be charged full shipping price on each item purchased and I will refund the appropriate amount of overpayment. Also, every January the postal service increases shipping charges. This year, many price increases were a bit steep with some package categories adding as much as a dollar on to an already high shipping charge. I try to absorb some of the new charges but that's getting harder with each increase.
International shipping charges also took a tremendous leap. International shipping will now depend on the country. Buyer must contact seller for international shipping charges before making a purchase. Seller reserves the right to void any international transactions where contact has not been made prior to purchasing.
All items in my listings come from either estate or garage sales. I do not know if they came from homes where smoking or pets were present. All items are sold in the same condition as when I received them.
