These purse, or pocket ashtrays were very popular in the 1940s but are getting a bit hard to find today. This one is in excellent condition and I see no visual evidence that it was ever used.
The top is one single piece of Mother of Pearl and the body of the ashtray is brass. It measures 1.25 inches square, not counting the handle. The handle on the back is one inch long. Along the back side is a piano hinge. Also on the back it is engraved 'Japan'. When you open it, an attached cigarette holder springs out.
As stated, it appears to have never been used. There are no dents, or scrapes. There is a thin line of rust along the outer edges under the mother of pearl top. It's not as bad as my photo makes it look, but the camera zoom feature really expands on these types of things. When closed and sitting on a table or flat surface, that thin ling of rust is not visible. That rust can probably be removed with a piece of fine steel wool but be careful not to go too deep as I'd be afraid it may jar the Mother of Pearl top loose.

International shipping charges also took a tremendous leap. International shipping will now depend on the country. Buyer must contact seller for international shipping charges before making a purchase. Seller reserves the right to void any international transactions where contact has not been made prior to purchasing.
All items in my listings come from either estate or garage sales. I do not know if they came from homes where smoking or pets were present. All items are sold in the same condition as when I received them.
