The lady at the estate sale where I purchased this set said it belonged to her father and that he used it while serving in the Navy during WWII.
This would have been used by a member of the air crew. Its a navigator's map plotting kit. These were used to determine the position of ships or aircraft.
There are two instruments. One is marked "Dietzgen Made in U.S.", the other is marked "Germany". It appears that at one time there was a small screwdriver included, but it is no longer here.
The instruments reside in a black leatherette case that has gold lettering that says "Navigator's Case U.S. Navy". The case has slight rubbing. It closes with two snaps. The snaps work great but some of the paint has worn a bit thin. The inside of the case is navy blue in color and has form fitting slots for the instruments.
The name that you see written in the center only shows up because of the flash from my camera. It is extremely hard to even see it otherwise.
This would be a great addition to a WWII collection. These are fairly rare and very few remain in the selling market.
Postal Insurance will be mandatory on this item. Since the insurance is for the protection of us both, I split that cost with the buyer. Delivery will be via USPS First Class Mail Parcel. Buyer to pay delivery charges of $6.95.
SHIPPING COST INFO:
I do combine shipping on multiple items purchased as long as all items will safely fit into a single box. However, my web host is not set up to calculate multiple item shipping costs. At checkout, you will be charged full shipping price on each item purchased and I will refund the appropriate amount of overpayment. If you are uncomfortable with that, you can send me an email with your zip code and stating which items you'll be purchasing and I'll calculate the correct combined shipping charges and send you a custom invoice.
Also, every January the postal service increases shipping charges. This year, many price increases were a bit steep with some package categories adding as much as a dollar on to an already high shipping charge. I try to absorb some of the new charges but that's getting harder with each increase.
International shipping charges also took a tremendous leap. International shipping will now depend on the country. Buyer must contact seller for international shipping charges before making a purchase. Seller reserves the right to void any international transactions where contact has not been made prior to purchasing.
All items in my listings come from either estate or garage sales. I do not know if they came from homes where smoking or pets were present. All items are sold in the same condition as when I received them.
