Elgin American Compacts were originally made by the Illinois Watch Case Company.

From online research I find this information about Elgin American Compacts: "In the 1940s, when the watch case business started to run into hard times, the Illinois Watch Case Company branched out into manufacturing cigarette cases and Lady's Compacts, using the "Elgin American" brand name. In the 1950s, all production was moved to Japan, which meant the "Elgin American" line was no longer made in America, let alone from Elgin".

That would mean this compact would be from the time frame of 1940s to 1950s.

This compact will take you back to the days of old Hollywood glamour. Goldtone in color and metal, it measures almost 4 inches across. There is no puff or sifter, but quite a bit of loose powder remains. There are no cracks or cuts in the mirror, it is just the very slightest bit hazy from powder that drifted onto it over the years. I did a quick cleaning with Windex, and that helped get the surface powder off, you may know something else to use on it. Having said that, I've seen brand new mirrors at the store that are hazier than this one.

The compact measures 4 inches across and has a floral and swirl design. There is a satin pouch.

In my photos you should be able to see the excellent condition. The next to last photo shows the amount of powder that remains.

The compact comes in a felt lined pouch that has the logo "Elgin American" on the front.

Buyer to pay USPS delivery charges of $5.95. Shipping is from Nevada.

SPECIAL NOTE ABOUT POSSIBLE PARTIAL REFUND OF SHIPPING CHARGES
Every January the postal service increases shipping charges. Previously, shipping charges were based solely on weight and a package cost the same amount regardless of where it was being shipped to in the United States. This year they went a bit overboard. Now, with this year's increase, the postal service has divided the United States in to 8 zones and all packages are charged by weight, size, and destination zone. Now it is not possible to state a shipping cost and have it be valid regardless if the package is traveling 2 miles or all the way to the east coast. This latest increase has added an additional .46 cents to up to $1.43 on packages. I try to absorb some of the new charges but that's getting harder with each increase.

To complicate things even further, Google will not show items for sale unless they have a designated cost, or unless the seller uses calculated shipping. My web host is not equipped to figure calculated shipping, so I have to quote a shipping charge using the east coast as the final destination and then refund over payments. When I return the overage, I usually do so by including cash inside the package when it's shipped. My feedback page will show verification that I do return overpayments.

COMBINED SHIPPING INFORMATION
I do combine shipping on multiple items purchased as long as all items can fit safely into a single box. However, my web host is not set up to calculate multiple item shipping costs. At checkout, you will be charged full shipping price on each item purchased and I will refund the appropriate amount of overpayment. If you are uncomfortable with that, you can send me an email with your zip code and stating which items you'll be purchasing and I'll calculate the correct combined shipping charges and send you a custom invoice.

International shipping charges also took a tremendous leap and on top of that, this year Paypal started charging a currency conversion fee of 4.4%. International shipping now depends on the destination country. Buyer must contact seller for international shipping charges before making a purchase. Seller reserves the right to void any international transactions where contact has not been made prior to purchasing.

All items in my listings come from either estate or garage sales. I do not know if they came from homes where smoking or pets were present. All items are sold in the same condition as when I received them.
