This small cup and saucer is for either tea, or is a demitasse cup and saucer. It is covered almost entire on the inside and outside with gold gilt (also known as gilding). The only part that is not gold in color is a 1/4 inch area around the top of the cup and the outer rim of the saucer.
Gold leaf is gold that has been hammered into thin sheets by goldbeating and is often used for gilding. The most commonly used gold is 22-karat yellow gold.
The cup measures 2.25 inches tall and 2.25 inches inside diameter across the top. The saucer measures 4.5 inches across. There are no markings to help narrow down the age, but I was told by the person that I obtained it from that she remembers it being displayed in her mother's hutch at least from 1981. So, it's earlier than the 1980s.
It's in excellent condition with no chips or breakage. If you look at it closely you be able to see very faint scratches, but you have to look for them.
Buyer to pay USPS delivery charges of $6.50. Shipping is from Nevada.
SPECIAL NOTE about possible partial REFUND of shipping charges:
Every January the postal service increases shipping charges. Previously, shipping charges were based solely on weight and zip code. This year the postal service went a bit overboard. Now, with this year's increase, the postal service has divided the United States in to 8 zones and all packages are charged by weight, size, and destination zone. This latest increase has added an additional .96 cents to up to $2.83 on packages, depending on their destination. I try to absorb some of the new charges and haven't increased my shipping charges in several years, but that's getting harder with each increase.
To complicate things even further, Google will not promote or show items for sale unless they have a designated cost, or unless the seller uses calculated shipping. My web host is not equipped to figure calculated shipping, so I have to quote a shipping charge using the east coast as the final destination and then refund over payments. When I return the overage, I usually do so by including cash inside the package when it's shipped. My feedback page will show verification that I do return overpayments.
COMBINED SHIPPING INFORMATION
I do combine shipping on multiple items purchased as long as all items can fit safely into a single box. However, my web host does not have the ability to calculate multiple item shipping costs. At checkout, you will be charged full shipping price on each item purchased and I will refund the appropriate amount of overpayment. If you are uncomfortable with any of that, you can send me an email with your zip code and stating which items you'll be purchasing and I'll calculate the correct combined shipping charges and send you a custom invoice.
International shipping charges also took a tremendous leap. International shipping will now depend on the country. Buyer must contact seller for international shipping charges before making a purchase. Seller reserves the right to void any international transactions where contact has not been made prior to purchasing.
All items in my listings come from either estate or garage sales. I do not know if they came from homes where smoking or pets were present. All items are sold in the same condition as when I received them.
