The Stud Bar is one of the nation’s oldest gay bars. It opened in 1966 and was located on Folsom Street in San Francisco. This is a rare vintage poster dated 1978. For being over 43 years old, it’s in wonderful condition. It measures 18 inches top to bottom and just under 21.5 inches side to side. It says “AJ Bets78” in the lower right area.
While researching the history of the Stud Bar, I came across a forum on the internet whose members were past Stud Bar customers. There was a comment from Chuckie Betz that said: “Up front there’s Jim (Edie), Pat, and Jeffrey” and he was asking people to help identify the others in the drawing.
CONDITION: There are no tack holes or tape residue. There is evidence of a small fold (straightened out) at the upper right corner, but there are no tears.
I obtained the poster at an estate sale and was told by the seller that he worked at the Stud Bar in the late 1970s and that that would have been when he obtained it.
In my photo, you’ll see I placed a bottle of water on each corner. The water was to hold the poster down during the photo taking. The water is not for sale and not part of this listing. (You’d be surprised that people do ask if the water is included).
The poster will be mailed rolled up and in a shipping tube. Delivery will be via the US Postal Service from Nevada. Postal delivery safeguards will be used, including Insurance and Signature Confirmation. Since these safeguards are for both of our protection, I split the cost with the buyer. The total delivery charge will be $7.95. REMEMBER, YOU WILL HAVE TO SIGN FOR THE PACKAGE UPON DELIVERY.
All items in my listings come from either estate or garage sales. I do not know if they came from homes where smoking or pets were present. All items are sold in the same condition as when I received them.
