This is the DUI insignia pin representing the U. S. Army Medical Corp. When I obtained it, it was attached to a small homemade cardboard square. Written on the cardboard it says "AMEDD" and "Vietnam". That would have been written by a past owner.

It measures about 1 inch. The motto of "To Conserve Fighting Strength" is on the front along the bottom. On the back it is marked "I-21 Made In U.S.A.". There is also a shield and although the pin is not marked N.S. Meyer, the shield is their hallmark. The back has a double clutch holder.

In researching this pin, I found the following info on the U.S. Army Medical Department website:
The AMEDD Regimental Distinctive Insignia (RDI) was designed by the Institute of Heraldry and is one of the oldest crests in the Army today. The 20 stars on the Crest correspond to the number of states in the Union between December 10, 1817, and December 3, 1818. The origin of the Crest dates from the Act of April 14, 1818, by which the Medical Department of the Army was first organized.
The alternating red and white stripes on the left side of the shield, as you face it, are the 13 stripes of the American Flag. The green staff is the staff of Aesculapius (the son of the Sun God, Apollo - the first healer, according to Greek mythology); and green was a color associated with the Medical Corps during the last half of the nineteenth century.
The phrase "To Conserve Fighting Strength" gives testimony to our mission as combat multipliers and guardians of our Nation's strength and peace.
The Regimental Distinctive Insignia for the AMEDD Regiment is known as a "Shield" when located on the Flag or the Coat of Arms.

I obtained a large lot of pins recently at an estate sale of a man who was a very serious pin collector. I was told he served in Vietnam so that was the time frame he specialized in but that he also collected pins from as early as WWI, WWII, and Korean War time frames. I researched this pin, but could find nothing that would narrow down the date of issue.

This gentleman is moving into an assisted living facility, so his estate is being liquidated. The large lot of pins that I purchased consisted of 723 pins that he collected. I will list them several at a time in between my normal estate sale finds. If there is a particular unit's pin that you are searching for, just let me know because there's a good chance I'll have it.

The pin is in excellent condition with very vibrant coloring. You will receive the actual pin that you see in my photo. Sorry about the reflections in the photo. I took the picture outside and it's picking up the reflections from the tree.

NOTE: On the pins that I show as having more than one quantity of, the pins may have different maker or numbers printed on the back. If that is a concern for you, feel free to contact me and I'll provide the exact information for each pin.

Although small, when wrapped it will exceed the postal limit of one quarter of an inch for normal envelope mailing. Delivery will be via USPS First Class Mail Package. Buyer to pay delivery charges of $5.50.

SPECIAL NOTE about SHIPPING CHARGES: Twice yearly and again in November for the holiday season (so 3 times each year) the postal service increases shipping charges. This is what they call their “Delivering for America” plan in which they hope to become profitable. It’s a 10 year plan that started in 2021, so we’ve got years to go with multiple price increases each year. I try to absorb some of the new charges and haven't increased my shipping charges in three years. This year, unfortunately, I have to increase the shipping. I'll try to keep it reasonable and even absorb some of the changes when possible.

I do combine shipping on multiple items purchased as long as all items can fit safely into a single box or envelope. However, my web host is not set up to calculate multiple item shipping costs. At checkout, you will be charged full shipping price on each item purchased and I will refund the appropriate amount of overpayment. If you are uncomfortable with that, you can send me an email with your zip code and stating which items you'll be purchasing and I'll calculate the correct combined shipping charges and send you a custom invoice.

INTERNATIONAL PURCHASES: Sorry, I do not ship to locations outside of the United States.

All items in my listings come from either estate or garage sales. I do not know if they came from homes where smoking or pets were present. All items are sold in the same condition as when I received them.
