12th Cavalry Distinguished Insignia Pin, Semper Paratus.
The pin is part of a large collection I purchased at an estate sale, thus I have no information regarding it's date. According to Wikipedia, this units engagements were in WWII, Vietnam, and Iraq
The pin has gold colored metal and is enameled. Measures about 1.75 inches high by 1 inch side to side. Features a yellow shield with a cactus. The cactus signifies the birthplace of the Regiment being Fort Sam Houston Texas in 1901. The Regiment spent its first two years at that post serving along the Mexican border. At the lower sides of the shield is a light blue or light grey scroll inscribed "Semper Paratus" in gold lettering. The motto translates to "Always Ready".
This unit insignia was approved on October 22, 1957. It was to be worn on Class A, Dress Blue, and Army Service Uniform (ASU).
I have two of this pin available. The difference is that one has a lighter green colored cactus. The cactus has a red base. The other pin has a little lighter color of yellow and has a darker (I'd call it hunter green) cactus with the cactus having a green base. If you have a preference as to which pin you'd like please let me know, otherwise I'll send to best looking one to the first buyer.

SPECIAL NOTE about SHIPPING CHARGES: Twice yearly and again in November for the holiday season (so 3 times each year) the postal service increases shipping charges. This is what they call their “Delivering for America” plan in which they hope to become profitable. It’s a 10 year plan that started in 2021, so we’ve got years to go with multiple price increases each year. I try to absorb some of the new charges and haven't increased my shipping charges in three years. This year, unfortunately, I have to increase the shipping. I'll try to keep it reasonable and even absorb some of the changes when possible.
