18th U.S. Airborne Corp Insignia "Sky Dragons" metal pin. When I obtained it, it was attached to a small homemade cardboard square. Written on the cardboard it says "18th Airborne Corp WWII". That would have been written by a past owner.
The pin measures about 1 by 1.25 inches.
The front has the motto "Sky Dragons" along the bottom. The back is marked "D-22 Made in U.S.A.". The back has a double clutch holder. It is in beyond excellent condition with all coloring being just as vibrant as the day it was made.
The following info comes from Wikipedia online:
The design was suggested by the authorized shoulder sleeve insignia, history and mission of the XVIII Airborne Corps. The dragon and the wings symbolize mobility, endurance, surprise and ferocity of attack by airborne units. The red areas allude to the field and skies of war, the 3 stars referring to the Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace and Central Europe Campaigns, World War II, in which the organization participated. The colors white and blue are used for all Corps.
I obtained a large lot of pins recently at an estate sale of a man who was a very serious pin collector. I was told he served in Vietnam so that was the time frame he specialized in but that he also collected pins from as early as WWI, WWII, and Korean War time frames.
This gentleman is moving into an assisted living facility, so his estate is being liquidated. The large lot of pins that I purchased consisted of 723 pins that he collected. I will list them several at a time in between my normal estate sale finds. If there is a particular unit's pin that you are searching for, just let me know because there's a good chance I'll have it.
You will receive the actual pin that you see in my photo.
NOTE: On the pins that I show as having more than a quantity of one, the pins may have different maker or numbers printed on the back. If that is a concern for you, feel free to contact me and I'll provide the exact information for each pin.
Although small, when wrapped it will exceed the postal limit of one quarter of an inch for normal envelope mailing. Delivery will be via USPS First Class Mail Package. Buyer to pay delivery charges of $5.75.
SPECIAL NOTE about SHIPPING CHARGES: Twice yearly and again in November for the holiday season (so 3 times each year) the postal service increases shipping charges. This is what they call their “Delivering for America” plan in which they hope to become profitable. It’s a 10 year plan that started in 2021, so we’ve got years to go with multiple price increases on shipping charges each year. I try to absorb some of the new charges and haven't increased my shipping charges in three years. This year, unfortunately, I have to increase the shipping. I'll try to keep it reasonable and even absorb some of the charges when possible.
I do combine shipping on multiple items purchased as long as all items can fit safely into a single box or envelope. However, my web host is not set up to calculate multiple item shipping costs. At checkout, you will be charged full shipping price on each item purchased and I will refund the appropriate amount of overpayment. If you are uncomfortable with that, you can send me an email with your zip code and stating which items you'll be purchasing and I'll calculate the correct combined shipping charges and send you a custom invoice.
INTERNATIONAL PURCHASES: Sorry, I do not ship to locations outside of the United States.
All items in my listings come from either estate or garage sales. I do not know if they came from homes where smoking or pets were present. All items are sold in the same condition as when I received them.
