The 64th Armor Regiment is an armor regiment of the United States Army, organized under the United States Army Regimental System. It is descended from the 758th Tank Battalion (Light) that served in the Italian campaign during World War II. Redesignated as the 64th Tank Battalion, it was assigned to the 3rd Infantry Division during the Korean War and it spent most of the Cold War stationed in West Germany before elements were transferred to Ft. Stewart, Georgia in the late 1990s. The regiment participated in Desert Shield, Desert Storm, Desert Fox, Desert Spring, Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.
I have two of these pins. On the back of one is the mark “E23 Made In USA”. According to the Office of Heraldry that mark means it was made from the time frame of 1965 to 1978 which would put it during Vietnam time. The other pin is unmarked and looks to be older. Both pins have double clutch holders.
The pins were part of a large collection of insignia pins that I purchased at an estate sale. They are attached to a small thin cardboard square. The writing on the cardboard was put there by the previous owner and that's great because I can't imagine how long it would take me to look up and obtain information on over 700 pins. The previous owner wrote "64th Armor” on the cardboard holders.
