This lovely vintage antique purse is estimated to be from the 1910s and was most likely made in France. It was made with finely hand applied steel beads. The floral design features two red roses surrounded by other various flowers and leaves. The coloring is still very bright and crisp. Both sides are exactly alike.
The purse measures roughly 7.25 inches side to side and 8.25 inches top to bottom not including the chain or fringe. The hinged frame is dark brassy in color and has an Art Nouveau designed decorative border that includes light green marbled stones and enamel highlights. The top clasp is adorned with a light green gemstone cabochon. The metal chain is 13 inches long and provides a drop of about 6.5 inches.
The inside is lined with what I believe is satin (but I can't promise). It is the original lining and is still firmly attached. There is one small red stain less than one quarter of an inch. Although the area above the pocket looks dark, I don't see that in normal lighting so maybe it shows because of the angle of the picture. There is one pocket.
-There is an area in the upper left corner where about 10 beads are missing, but you have to look to find that area. I have found some loose beads and will send them along in case you want to re-attach or glue them back on.
-There is also a horizontal line, or a "runner", about 2 inches from the bottom on one side. (You can see this in my last photo, but I enlarged the area and zoomed in to get the picture and by doing so, the area looks large and prominent, but that's because I zoomed so you can see it).
-The bag is firmly attached to the frame but a close look will show some of the attaching threads. I think it was possibly made that way because I don't know how the bag would attach otherwise.
-As for the fringe along the bottom, you'll notice there are four beaded triangles. When new, there were beaded stringers attached to those triangles. Over the years most of the stringers came off and there are only 10 or 12 left. In the inside pocket there are some beads that I believe are stringers that came off, but I did not take them out and inspect or count them as I was afraid I'd lose some, so I don't know how many are there. The stringers that are still attached to the purse can be removed and no one would ever know they were there. But, if you remove them, I suggest saving the beads in case in the future you should need to make a repair to the main body.
