What an incredible talent to be able to make pieces of art such as this picture. I can't imagine the amount of time, patience, and precision it would take to make something of this quality.
The scene shows a house sitting at the water's edge with a boat approaching. I'm assuming the picture depicts a night time scene being lit by a full moon. But, on the other hand, since there are birds flying, it could be a day time scene being lit by a bright sun. I guess it would be at each views discretion as to how to 'read" it.
I purchase two of these at an estate sale. (Only the one in my photo is offered in this listing). At the sale, there was an informational card that read "Handmade, circa 1950s to 1960s". Being handmade, it should be one-of-a-kind.
The picture measures 8.5 by 11 inches. It is not framed but is made to look as though it is matted, but it's not. It's either shaved straw or bamboo on black material that I believe is silk. I'm guessing that each little piece was glued on because I can see no evidence of sewing. One thing that I find amazing is that the backing is just a simple piece of cardboard.
There is writing on the back, but it's not anything that I understand so I don't know if it's the artist's name or some other information.
CONDITION:
I am not the least bit of an expert in art, but I'd say the picture is in excellent condition. There are no gaps in the material and I don't see where any pieces of straw or bamboo are missing,
