As you can see from my photos, this salt and pepper set of cast iron elephants have been around quite a while. The elephants are both missing quite a bit of their paint. The dark one is for the pepper, and the light one is for the salt (of course). They each stand about 2 inches tall. Both have a cork stopper, but both stoppers have been pushed up inside.
As for the missing paint, if I were going to keep these, I'd strip the rest of the paint off and repaint them. I can tell that at one time their nostrils, their tongue, and the inner area of their ears was pink, so I'd repaint those areas pink again.
I don't know their history as far as age or usage because I obtained them at an estate sale. The white elephant has the remnants of the words "Deep Creek Lake MD" stenciled on the back so at least we know they came from the Maryland.
