I purchased this Lensatic Compass recently at an estate sale, so I have very little information about it. The compass looks as if it has never been used, it's nice and clean with no scratches or missing paint. The original box is present, and it looks to be older with the color fading. Just going by the looks of the box, I'd think this could be from as early as the 1950s, but that is totally a guess on my part. The side of the box says its Model number 823. I spent several hours researching that model number and can find nothing.
While researching it, I found other models that state the following features which seem to all be present on this compass:
Folding lid with sighting hairline
Swinging luminous dial
Magnifying lens viewer
Side ruler
The compass is Army green in color. I do not know if it is military issue but the coloring makes me think it could be. It comes with the original box and an instruction sheet.
Also, regarding the instruction sheet, it is faded also with the sides having the yellowing that older paper will pick up. It is not dated either but it does say 'Japan" in the lower right corner. All this also leads me to believe a possible date in the 1950s.
