I obtained this letter opener recently at an estate sale. It was a very unusual sale and was even billed as a “paranormal estate sale”. I went back each of the three days that it took place just because there were so many extremely unusual items. I purchased quite a few items and will be listing them all.
This letter opener measures just over seven inches long. The ‘handle’ portion is 1.75 inches and the blade is just under 5.5 inches long by 1/2 inch wide tapering to a point at the end. The handle is topped by a silver ball. The handle is inlaid with various colored stones or glass.
You will notice in my photo that there was quite a bit of tarnish on the blade, but I have since used steel wool on the blade and now it’s nice and shiny. The original owner was not present at the sale, so there was no one to ask about the age.
It’s a very unique piece and is sure to be a conversation piece, especially when told where it came from.
