Per the book “Casinos and their Ashtrays”:
“4 and 1/16th inches round clear glass with red on yellow imprint; The Sands Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada. Artwork shows the front of the hotel. This was before the tower was added in the very early 1960s.”
The Sands hotel casino opened in December 1952. Going by what the book says, I’d assume this to be from the 1950s.
NOTE - I think everyone knows the original purpose of this case, but if I mention that word, google will block my listing and can even ban me from using their services.
The book says red letters, but it’s not a bright red, more like burnt red. On the inside there are some rough edges and some people may call them chips (like what you’d get by stacking glass together). These rough spots are almost too tiny to see and one of these ‘rough’ edges may actually be a tiny chip. Still, it's in great condition for being about 75 plus years old.
