What an incredible talent to be able to make pieces of art such as this picture. I can't imagine the amount of time, patience, and precision it would take to make something of this quality.
The scene shows a house sitting on stilts at the water's edge with a boat approaching. There is a large palm tree and birds in the sky. I'm not sure if it depicts a night time scene, or a day time scene. I guess it would be at each views discretion as to how to 'read" it.
I purchase two of these at an estate sale. (Only the one in my photo is offered in this listing). At the sale, there was an informational card that read "Handmade, circa 1950s to 1960s". Being handmade, it should be one-of-a-kind.
The picture measures 8.5 by 11 inches. It is not framed but is made to look as though it is matted, but it's not. It's either shaved straw or bamboo on black material that I believe is silk. I'm guessing that each little piece was glued on because I can see no evidence of sewing. One thing that I find amazing is that the backing is just a simple piece of cardboard.
There is writing on the back, but it's not anything that I understand so I don't know if it's the artist's name or some other information.
CONDITION:
I am not the least bit of an expert in art, but I'd say the picture is in excellent condition. There are no gaps in the material and I don't see where any pieces of straw or bamboo are missing. There is one small light spot in the very right bottom corner that is near impossible to see. I'm sure will brush off, but I don't have a small brush and don't want to take the chance of grinding it in.

SPECIAL NOTE ABOUT POSSIBLE PARTIAL REFUND OF SHIPPING CHARGES:
Every January the U.S. Postal Service increases the shipping prices. This year's increase is beyond any we've seen in previous years. Before the 2019 increase, shipping costs were based on weight. A package weighing less than one pound cost the same amount regardless if it was mailed 2 miles away, or from coast to coast. Packages weighing over 1 pound were priced by what the destination zipcode was.
Now, the postal service has divided the United States in to 8 zones and all packages are charged by weight, size, and destination zone. Now it is not possible to state a shipping cost and have it be valid regardless if the package is traveling 2 miles or all the way to the east coast. I am in Nevada and probably 90% of the packages I mail go eastward, and a majority of them go all the way to the east coast.
To complicate this even further, Google will not show items for sale unless they have a designated cost, or unless the seller uses calculated shipping. My web host is not equipped to figure calculated shipping, so I have to quote a shipping charge using the east coast as the final destination and then refund over payments. When I return the overage, I usually do so by including cash inside the package when it's shipped. My feedback page will show verification that I do return overpayments.
As a buyer, there are two choices. If you over pay on the shipping charges, I refund an appropriate amount to cover the over payment OR if you'd like to send me a message stating your zip code and the item you are interested in, I can quote you an exact shipping charge and send you a custom invoice with an accurate shipping charge.
