The Military Merit Medal is a bronze hexagon that depicts the American bald eagle with spread wings on the face. The eagle has the U.S. shield on its breast and is grasping three crossed arrows in its talons. On the reverse of the medal are inscriptions "FOR MILITARY" and "MERIT" with a plaque for engraving the recipient" name between the two inscriptions. A spray of laurel, representing achievement is at the bottom. The ribbon is a field of myrtle green with five white stripes in the center and white edges. The Army Commendation Medal was designed and sculpted by Thomas Hudson Jones of the Institute of Heraldry.
The set that I am offering here includes the Service Medal, the Ribbon Bar, and the Lapel Pin. It is a matching set. These three items are housed in a plush leather case that measures 7 x 4.25 x 1 inch. The front of the case says "United States of America" in gold gilded lettering.
I researched this medal online to try to determine a date range for when this particular award would have been given. I found a history of medals website that stated this to be from 1941 to present date. It stated that the majority of these would be from WWII, and Vietnam.
I purchased it at an estate sale (along with several other medals) where the seller said they belonged to a family member who served almost 40 years in the military and retired around 1990.
