I purchased these 3 oriental hand fans recently at an estate sale. The seller said her parents used to travel frequently to the Middle East in the 1960s, 70s, and 80s due to her father’s government position. The mother always brought home décor and souvenirs from the region.
Each fan has a base color of very light green. Each fan measures 9.5 to 10 inches across and has a security clasp on the bottom of the handle.
Pictured on the 3 fans are:
Elephant, made in China, handle is the color of yellow
Geisha Girl, made in China, handle is black in color
Bird, handle is black and is marked “made in People’s Republic of China”. This fan has a small kink on the left side (at about 9 o’clock area).
NOTE regarding the bird fan…. I researched when the phrase “made in People’s Republic of China” (PROC) was used, and found the following information:
“In the mid 70s, trade gradually resumed with the mainland and their production is marked "Made in the People's Republic of China." In 1978, the United States fully normalized relations with mainland China and their production again became "Made in China”.
These fans are great for wall décor or many other display purposes.

SPECIAL NOTE about SHIPPING CHARGES: Twice yearly and again in November for the holiday season (so 3 times each year) the postal service increases shipping charges. This is what they call their “Delivering for America” plan in which they hope to become profitable.
