11th U.S. Army Infantry Regiment OCS Officer Candidate School Insignia Pin. When I obtained it, it was attached to a small homemade cardboard square. Written on the cardboard it says "11th Inf OCS WWII". That would have been written by a past owner.
The pin measures about one inch. The back is marked in raised lettering "Vanguard New York, V-21, Made in U.S.A." The back has a double clutch holder. One of the posts that the clutch holder attaches to is slightly bent but that doesn't seem to affect the security of the attachment.
This pin appears to have been well worn. The coloring is still quite vibrant. There are some pittings and light scratches that are mostly seen with a jeweler's loop. I researched this pin and did find a reference to it being from WWII. That could explain the usage, although I have many other pins from that era that look brand new.
I obtained a large lot of pins recently at an estate sale of a man who was a very serious pin collector. I was told he served in Vietnam so that was the time frame he specialized in but that he also collected pins from as early as WWI, WWII, and Korean War time frames.
This gentleman is moving into an assisted living facility, so his estate is being liquidated. The large lot of pins that I purchased consisted of 723 pins that he collected. I will list them several at a time in between my normal estate sale finds. If there is a particular unit's pin that you are searching for, just let me know because there's a good chance I'll have it.
