According to GoogleAI, this necklace is an Egyptian Revival style bib necklace, frequently associated with the goddess Nekhbet or the falcon god Horus. This specific design, featuring articulated wings and a central bird motif, is gold colored brass, and measures 5.5 inches wingtip to wingtip.
The chain length is about 15.5 inches. Add that to the 5.5 inch length of the bird and the total is approx. 21 inches. On one end, about 3 inches of that length is an extender.
The symbolism of the bird is protection, strength, and courage, frequently depicted as the goddess Nekhbet in ancient Egyptian culture.
Unbranded, but thought to be a piece from Franklin Mint’s Egyptian-themed jewelry from their "Jewel of the Nile" series. Franklin Mint released this series from 1987 to 1991. These pieces can now only be found on vintage and artisanal marketplaces in price ranges of $60 to well over $100.
CONDITION, PLEASE READ:
Looking at my last picture below, you’ll see that in the bird’s right wing there is a small defect. It’s too small to give you a measurement on, but I’d say it’s about the size of a pencil dot. I don’t know if a jeweler can fill that in or not, but if not, and if I were going to keep this piece I’d ask my jeweler to make a spot on the left wing to match the right wing. That would then make both wings match. Or, wear it like it is.
RETURNS:
Since I have described the defect to the best of my ability, this piece will be a non-returnable item.
SHIPPING:
Buyer to pay $7.99 USPS 1st Class Mail shipping charges. The package will be fully insured and will require a signature at the time of delivery. Shipping is from Arizona.
SPECIAL NOTE about SHIPPING CHARGES: Twice yearly and again in November for the holiday season (so 3 times each year) the postal service increases shipping charges. This is what they call their “Delivering for America” plan in which they hope to become profitable. It’s a 10 year plan that started in 2021, so we’ve got years to go with multiple price increases each year. I try to absorb some of the new charges and haven't increased my shipping charges in three years. This year, unfortunately, I have to increase the shipping. I'll try to keep it reasonable and even absorb some of the changes when possible.
I do combine shipping on multiple items purchased as long as all items can fit safely into a single box or envelope. However, my web host is not set up to calculate multiple item shipping costs. At checkout, you will be charged full shipping price on each item purchased and I will refund the appropriate amount of overpayment. If you are uncomfortable with that, you can send me an email with your zip code and stating which items you'll be purchasing and I'll calculate the correct combined shipping charges and send you a custom invoice.
INTERNATIONAL PURCHASES: Sorry, I do not ship to locations outside of the United States.
All items in my listings come from either estate or garage sales. I do not know if they came from homes where smoking or pets were present. All items are sold in the same condition as when I received them.
