Beautiful single mosaic red rose sitting on a green background of very small pieces of stone / glass. The rose centerpiece is surrounded by a gold tone border.
The brooch is oval in shape and measures about 1/2 by 1.5 inches. It is stamped on the back "Italy". The closure is known as a 'safety catch" (a safety pin type closure).
As to the age, I purchased the brooch at an estate sale so there were no sales people there with firsthand knowledge. Knowing that it is an older piece, I researched it to try to determine the age. I found a website about how to identify and date items by the type of clasp and closures. I found the exact safety catch in a photo and the description stated that this type was used from about 1910 and stayed popular until the early 1940s. Looking at the piece I would say that is absolutely a strong possibility as it has the look and feel of that era.
The brooch is in wonderful condition with no missing or chipped stones and it doesn't look as if it was ever worn much, if at all.

SPECIAL NOTE ABOUT POSSIBLE PARTIAL REFUND OF SHIPPING CHARGES
Every January the postal service increases shipping charges. Previously, shipping charges were based solely on weight and a package cost the same amount regardless of where it was being shipped to in the United States. This year they went a bit overboard. Now, with this year's increase, the postal service has divided the United States in to 8 zones and all packages are charged by weight, size, and destination zone. Now it is not possible to state a shipping cost and have it be valid regardless if the package is traveling 2 miles or all the way to the east coast. This latest increase has added an additional .46 cents to up to $1.43 on packages. I try to absorb some of the new charges but that's getting harder with each yearly increase.
To complicate things even further, Google will not show items for sale unless they have a designated cost, or unless the seller uses calculated shipping. My web host is not equipped to figure calculated shipping, so I have to quote a shipping charge using the east coast as the final destination and then refund over payments. When I return the overage, I usually do so by including cash inside the package when it's shipped. My feedback page will show verification that I do return overpayments.
COMBINED SHIPPING INFORMATION
I do combine shipping on multiple items purchased as long as all items can fit safely into a single box. However, my web host is not set up to calculate multiple item shipping costs. At checkout, you will be charged full shipping price on each item purchased and I will refund the appropriate amount of overpayment. If you are uncomfortable with that, you can send me an email with your zip code and stating which items you'll be purchasing and I'll calculate the correct combined shipping charges and send you a custom invoice.
Due to claims that merchandise is not being received at various international countries (although Customs tracking verifies the delivery), I will no longer be able to process international orders unless payment is made with U.S. currency, including conversion fees. Orders will be processed after funds have cleared a U.S. bank. Paypal will not be accepted on International orders. Seller reserves the right to void any international transactions where contact has not been made prior to purchasing.
All items in my listings come from either estate or garage sales. I do not know if they came from homes where smoking or pets were present. All items are sold in the same condition as when I received them.
