27th U.S. Army Infantry DUI insignia pin. The pin measures roughly 3/4 by one inch. It has the motto of "NEC ASPERA TERRENT". It has a black background with gold edging and gold detailed wolf head in the center.
The back is marked "N.S. Meyer Inc. New York". It has two shields with one of them containing a marking of 9M. According to the Office of Heraldry that mark is from the time frame of 1960 to 1965, which would put it around the end of the Vietnam War to present time. Per timelines of America's Wars, the Vietnam war was 1954 to 1975.
The pin has double clutch holders on the back. It is an older pin. All enamel and metal pieces are present with no chips or cracks but you may want to polish it.
The pin is part of a large collection of insignia pins that I purchased at an estate sale. It is attached to a small thin cardboard square. The writing on the cardboard was put there by the previous owner and that's great because I can't imagine how long it would take me to look up and obtain information on over 700 pins. The previous owner wrote "27th Inf (LH&RN) Vietnam on the cardboard holder. I'm using his information. He was the expert, so hopefully the information is correct.
