Linda Darnell was born Monetta Eloyse Darnell on October 16, 1923 in Dallas Texas and died April 10, 1965 in Glenview Illinois at the age of 41. The cause of death was due to burns sustained during a house fire.
Darnell was a model by the age of 11, and was acting on stage by the age of 13. In November of 1937 she was invited to Hollywood for some screen tests, but was initially rejected by film studios as being too young. At age 15 Darnell was finally signed to a contract with 20th Century Fox. Her film and television career includes over 50 appearances.
The photo measures 8 by 9.75 inches. The photo is not dated, but I'm guessing its from the 1940s as she looks rather young.
It is inscribed and signed in red ink. It says "To Erling, with all my best. Cordially Linda Darnell".
This is not a copy or a reproduction, its the real thing. I do not have a certificate of authenticity. I did compare the signature with several dozen that I found online and it is a match.
You're probably wondering why I'm asking such a low price when others on the internet are in the $60 to $100 range. It's because of the several conditional problems described below. I would think a frame would cover most of them..........
CONDITION:
-There is chipping at the top left side, and a rubbing at the top right side.
-The bottom has quite a bit of chipping that runs about one eighth of an inch high.
-The bottom left corner has a fold.
-The bottom right corner has a bigger fold and a one inch tear.
-There is an area about 4.5 inches long vertically on the right edge with orange coloring.
I have about a dozen autographed photos of movie stars of the 1940s to 1950s. They are all autographed to this person named Erling. Somewhere around here, I have Erling's last name and will update this listing when I locate it. I do know that Erling was an inventor in the skiing industry and was very well known in that industry and throughout Hollywood.
