This agate bolo tie was handmade, thus one of a kind. The center piece is actually old two inch square head nails that were heated and bent into what I think looks like a butterfly. In the center of that is a polished agate stone measuring about 3/4 inch. Also hanging from the center piece is another agate stone. The entire center piece measures approx. 2 inches.
The center piece is on a 39.5 inch leather black and white checkered leather cord. The leather cord has silver colored metal end caps with an agate stone on each end.
On the slide on the back which holds the center piece in place, it says “Bennett -" Pat Pend C-31”. Researching on the Patent Pending website, I find the statement that says the number C-31 was used from the mid 1950s to the mid 1960s.
It is one of about a dozen bolos that I purchased as a collection at an estate sale. The seller stated they belonged to her father and tried to give me as much information on each that she could remember. She said this one was her father’s favorite but she never saw him wear it. She remembered that he purchased it while the family was on a road trip when she was a teenager around the early 1960s.

SPECIAL NOTE about SHIPPING CHARGES: Twice yearly and again in November for the holiday season (so 3 times each year) the postal service increases shipping charges. This is what they call their “Delivering for America” plan in which they hope to become profitable. It’s a 10 year plan that started in 2021, so we’ve got years to go with multiple price increases each year. I try to absorb some of the new charges and haven't increased my shipping charges in three years. This year, unfortunately, I have to increase the shipping.
