I purchased this wonderful flag from a little lady who will be moving in to a retirement home and is in the process of selling many of her treasures that she cannot take with her.
She said that she can remember as a child how her father would hoist this flag up the flagpole every single day. She told me she was born in 1940 and that it is her belief that her father probably owned this before she was born. These 48 star flags were produced beginning in 1912 so the time frame could be anywhere between 1912 and 1940.
Along one side of the flag is the printing "Capitol E3X5". I'm guessing 'Capitol" is the company that made it and that the size is 3 by 5 feet. I did not measure it but in viewing it I would say that is about correct. (I say 'about" because if it turns out to be 35 by 47 inches or 37 by 49 inches I don't want to disappoint the buyer).
I attempted to research the company, but there were several named 'Capitol" so I gave up on that idea. Also, I am assuming that the word 'Capitol" stands for the company that made it, but can't promise.
The flag has double stitching in all areas. The stars are printed on, not cut and sewn. The grommets are secure with no separation from the material.
You should be able to see in my photo that there are a few light stains. If you look about 1/3 of the way over from the right, you'll see a stain on the white stripe 2nd from the bottom and 2nd from the top. There may be others, but if so they are so small they don't show up in the photo and I already have the flag packed for shipping. Almost all cleaners will clean and press a flag at no charge. I've taken in several of my own personal flags over the years and never paid anything to have any of them cleaned. I thought about taking this one in, but decided to show it with the stains included so the buyer can see the age.
Delivery will be via USPS Priority Mail packaging. It will be sent insured and with signature confirmation required. Since those are for the protection of us both, I split those costs with the buyer. Buyer to pay $9.95 delivery charges.
REMEMBER, THE PACKAGE MUST BE SIGNED FOR AT TIME OF DELIVERY.
SPECIAL NOTE ABOUT SHIPPING CHARGES: Twice yearly, and again in November for the holiday season (so three times per year) the postal service increases shipping charges. This is what they call their "Delivering For America" plan in which they hope to become profitable. It's a 10 year plan that started in 2021, so we've got years to go with multiple price increases on shipping charges each year. I try to absorb the new charges and haven't increased my shipping charges in three years. This year unfortunately, I have to if I want to stay in business. I'll try to keep it reasonable and even absorb some of the increases when possible.
I do combine shipping on multiple items purchased as long as all items will safely fit into a single box or envelope. However, my web host is not set up to calculate multiple item shipping costs. At checkout, you will be charged full shipping price on each item purchased and I will refund the appropriate amount of overpayment. If you are uncomfortable with that, you can send me an email with your zip code and stating which items you'll be purchasing and I'll calculate the correct combined shipping charges and send you a custom invoice.
INTERNATIONAL PURCHASED: Sorry, I do not ship to locations outside of the United States.
All items in my listings come from either estate or garage sales. I do not know if they come from homes where smoking or pets were present. Unless otherwise stated, all items are sold in the same condition as when I obtained them.
