This beautiful and very rare porcelain china cup and saucer came from my mother-in-laws estate. I'm not sure if it's a demitasse set, or a tea set. It had been displayed in a glass hutch for all of the 33 years that I've known her, and for many years before that. She always referred to it as an antique.
I've had it for quite a while and trying to research it has not been easy. All I had to go by was the writing on the bottom of the saucer that says "Hand Painted, Des.Pat, Made in Japan". Several months back, I did find online a little creamer with the exact paintings of the mountain, tree leaves, and gold accents. I found this on an "Ask the antiques expert" website. The expert stated "although the maker is unknown, based on the use of "Made in Japan" and the combination of "des.pat", plus the shape of the mark, I believe it's a pre-war piece likely dating from 1920 to the late 1930s. A complete set that included a teapot, 6 cups and saucers, sugar bowl and creamer was quoted at $295 to $300."
The saucer measures 4.25 inches across. The cup measures 2.5 inches across the top (that does not include the handle), and it stands 1.75 inches tall.
CONDITION:
I see no scratches, chips, or crazing. There is one area on the rim of the cup that has an extremely slight flat spot. If you look at my main photo, this area is in the 11 o'clock position.
Buyer to pay USPS First Class Mail Parcel delivery charges of $8.65. Delivery is from Nevada.
SPECIAL NOTE ABOUT SHIPPING CHARGES: Twice yearly, and again in November for the holiday season (so three times per year) the postal service increases shipping charges. This is what they call their "Delivering For America" plan in which they hope to become profitable. It's a 10 year plan that started in 2021, so we've got years to go with multiple price increases on shipping charges each year. I try to absorb the new charges and haven't increased my shipping charges in three years. This year unfortunately, I have to if I want to stay in business. I'll try to keep it reasonable and even absorb some of the increases when possible.
I do combine shipping on multiple items purchased as long as all items will safely fit into a single box or envelope. However, my web host is not set up to calculate multiple item shipping costs. At checkout, you will be charged full shipping price on each item purchased and I will refund the appropriate amount of overpayment. If you are uncomfortable with that, you can send me an email with your zip code and stating which items you'll be purchasing and I'll calculate the correct combined shipping charges and send you a custom invoice.
INTERNATIONAL PURCHASED: Sorry, I do not ship to locations outside of the United States.
All items in my listings come from either estate or garage sales. I do not know if they come from homes where smoking or pets were present. Unless otherwise stated, all items are sold in the same condition as when I obtained them.
