According to the book "Casinos and Their Ashtrays" by Art Anderson, these four vintage Harrah's ashtrays had a stated value of $2 to $4 each. That book is dated 1994, so over 20 years ago and I'm sure the value has gone up since then.
The write up in the book gives the following information about Harrah's:
In 1946 Bill Harrah bought the Mint Club on Virginia Street in Reno and re-opened it as Harrah's Club. When the Golden Hotel in Reno burned to the ground, Bill Harrah purchased the property for his new modern hotel/casino which opened in 1969. Harrah went on to purchase 3 main properties in Lake Tahoe, one in 1955, one in 1956 and one in 1958. Those 3 properties gave him enough real estate that he constructed one large location that opened in 1973. He named it Harrah's Lake Tahoe.
Going by that, and since these 4 ashtrays are the exact ones pictured in the book, I'm figuring they would be from the time period of late 1940s to mid 1960s. To narrow that time frame down a little more, at an estate sale recently I purchased a box of various ashtrays that look as if they've never been removed from the box, and the box still has the shipping label attached. It's an old label and the addresses do not have zip codes. Postal zip codes began in mid 1963
The ashtrays measure 3.5 inches across. The words on all four are in different colors: one in orange, one in white, one in red, and one in black. Two of them state the name "Harrah's", two of them state the name "Harrah's Club". They all say "Reno and Lake Tahoe".
There are no chips or cracks.
EXPLANATION OF SHIPPING CHARGES:
Google will not include items in their search pages unless a shipping charge is stated or unless calculated shipping is offered. Calculated shipping is very often quoted incorrectly so I choose to post a charge using the east coast as the destination. If you live in or near California, your charges may be less and if so I will refund a portion of those charges. If you feel uncomfortable with that, just send me an email with your zipcode and I'll quote you an exact delivery charge.
That being said, buyer to pay no more than $9.95 for USPS Priority Mail delivery charges, again, possibly less depending on your location.
SHIPPING CHARGE INFO:
I do combine shipping on multiple items purchased. However, my web host is not set up to calculate multiple item shipping costs. At checkout, you will be charged full shipping price on each item purchased and I will refund the appropriate amount of overpayment. If you are uncomfortable with that, you can send me an email with your zip code and stating which items you'll be purchasing and I'll calculate the correct combined shipping charges and send you a custom invoice.
Also, every January the postal service increases shipping charges. This year, many price increases were a bit steep with some package categories adding as much as a dollar on to an already high shipping charge. I try to absorb some of the new charges but that's getting harder with each increase.
International shipping charges also took a tremendous leap. International shipping will now depend on the country. Buyer must contact seller for international shipping charges before making a purchase. Seller reserves the right to void any international transactions where contact has not been made prior to purchasing.
All items in my listings come from either estate or garage sales. I do not know if they came from homes where smoking or pets were present. All items are sold in the same condition as when I received them.
