I'm unsure of the date for this poster. While researching it, I saw references to the 1930s, but I also saw references to it being a replica reproduction of an original Chinese advertisement poster from the 1930s. Of the couple of posters that I saw that stated they were reproductions, they all had about the same asking price (around $40), so that makes me think it is a reproduction. Regardless, it appears to be a very collectible item.
If it is a reproduction, it was made to look old. It was made with a very light yellowing sheen. There is a 1/4 inch metal strip at the top and at the bottom also made to appear as if they are slightly rusted with age. The poster measures 20 by 30.5 inches.
I purchased it at an estate sale. The seller said it was her mothers. She said she can remember when she was a little girl she went with her mother to an art show. Her mother purchased two posters, this one and another one with a pair of semi nude Shanghai girls appearing to be getting dressed. (That second poster will be in a separate listing). She said that would have been in the mid to late 1970s. She said she is certain that her mother never displayed it. It has remained in its mailing tube for many years. Looking closely, I would have to agree that it's never been framed, hung, or displayed in any way. It's in excellent condition.
The can goods that you see in the photo are not included. They were there to hold the poster while photos were taken. (You'd be surprised how many people think the weights are part of the listing).
The poster will be mailed via USPS First Class Mail parcel. It will be rolled and in a mailing tube. Buyer to pay $7.99 delivery costs. Mailing is from Nevada.
SPECIAL SPECIAL NOTICE.... Beginning sometime in July 2025 the postal service will begin charging a surcharge on any tube or 'rolling" packages as their sorting machines can not handle any package that curves. This surcharge is estimated to be around $15 per affected package. If you are a buyer of posters or any items that fit in a tube or rounded package, you better make your purchases before July 2025.
SPECIAL NOTE ABOUT SHIPPING CHARGES: Twice yearly, and again in November for the holiday season (so three times per year) the postal service increases shipping charges. This is what they call their "Delivering For America" plan in which they hope to become profitable. It's a 10 year plan that started in 2021, so we've got years to go with multiple price increases on shipping charges each year. I try to absorb the new charges and haven't increased my shipping charges in three years. This year unfortunately, I have to if I want to stay in business. I'll try to keep it reasonable and even absorb some of the increases when possible.
I do combine shipping on multiple items purchased as long as all items will safely fit into a single box or envelope. However, my web host is not set up to calculate multiple item shipping costs. At checkout, you will be charged full shipping price on each item purchased and I will refund the appropriate amount of overpayment. If you are uncomfortable with that, you can send me an email with your zip code and stating which items you'll be purchasing and I'll calculate the correct combined shipping charges and send you a custom invoice.
INTERNATIONAL PURCHASED: Sorry, I do not ship to locations outside of the United States.
All items in my listings come from either estate or garage sales. I do not know if they come from homes where smoking or pets were present. Unless otherwise stated, all items are sold in the same condition as when I obtained them.
