Per Wikipedia: This species is the largest gastropod in the American waters, and one of the largest univalves in the world. It can grow up to 24 inches in length. The outline of the shell is somewhat fusiform, with a long siphonal canal, and can have up to 10 whorls. Its sculpture present several spiral cords and axial ribs, some of which form knobs on the whorls" shoulders. The shell becomes greyish white to salmon-orange when adult. This large sea snail is found along the Atlantic coast of the Americas from the U.S. state of North Carolina to the north, to Yucatan in the Gulf of Mexico to the south. They live among the sand and weeds in the shallow marine waters of the Atlantic Ocean. The horse conch are carnivores that feed on bivalves and other snails.
While doing additional research I found that the Indians used them in various ways from liquid or drink holders to trumpets.
The shell that I am offering in this listing measures about 8.25 inches long. It appears to have never been polished or altered in any way. You will receive it just as I did when purchased at an estate sale. You will receive the actual shell shown in my photo.

SPECIAL NOTE ABOUT POSSIBLE PARTIAL REFUND OF SHIPPING CHARGES:
Every January the postal service increases shipping charges. Previously, shipping charges were based solely on weight and zip code. This year the postal service went a bit overboard. Now, with this year's increase, the postal service has divided the United States in to 8 zones and all packages are charged by weight, size, and destination zone. This latest increase has added an additional .96 cents to up to $2.83 on packages, depending on their destination. I try to absorb some of the new charges and haven't increased my shipping charges in several years, but that's getting harder with each increase.
To complicate things even further, Google will not promote or show items for sale unless they have a designated cost, or unless the seller uses calculated shipping. My web host is not equipped to figure calculated shipping, so I have to quote a shipping charge using the east coast as the final destination and then refund over payments. When I return the overage, I usually do so by including cash inside the package when it's shipped. My feedback page will show verification that I do return overpayments.
COMBINED SHIPPING INFORMATION
I do combine shipping on multiple items purchased as long as all items can fit safely into a single box. However, my web host does not have the ability to calculate multiple item shipping costs. At checkout, you will be charged full shipping price on each item purchased and I will refund the appropriate amount of overpayment. If you are uncomfortable with any of that, you can send me an email with your zip code and stating which items you'll be purchasing and I'll calculate the correct combined shipping charges and send you a custom invoice.
Due to claims that merchandise is not being received at various international countries (although Customs tracking verifies the delivery), I will no longer be able to process international orders unless payment is made with U.S. currency, including conversion fees. Orders will be processed after funds have cleared a U.S. bank. PAYPAL WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED FOR INTERNATIONAL PURCHASES. Seller reserves the right to void any international transactions where contact has not been made prior to purchasing.
All items in my listings come from either estate or garage sales. I do not know if they came from homes where smoking or pets were present. All items are sold in the same condition as when I received them.
