The Mapes Hotel opened in 1947 and was located on the north bank of the Truckee River at Virginia Street in Reno. It closed in 1982.
The ashtray that you see on the right side of my photo can be found in the book "Casinos and Their Ashtrays" by Art Anderson. It shows a value of $10 to $13. The book is dated 1994, that's over 20 years ago and I'm sure the value has gone up since then. The ashtray is 3.75 inches across. It is clear glass with a turquoise center that features the Mapes logo of two cowboys and says 'Mapes Hotel Reno'.
The ashtray on the left is not listed in the book. It measures about 4 inches across. It is clear glass with a white center that features the same Mapes logo of two cowboys and says 'Mapes Hotel Reno'.
These are a great addition for someone who is an ashtray collector, or someone who wants to own a piece of old Reno history.
Buyer to pay $7.95 USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate Package postage. NOTE - If you live in or near Nevada, regular Priority Mail may be a better option for you. If so, I'll refund an appropriate amount of the shipping charges. If you'd like an exact quote just send me your zip code and I'll provide that.
SPECIAL NOTE ABOUT POSSIBLE PARTIAL REFUND OF SHIPPING CHARGES:
Every January the postal service increases shipping charges. Previously, shipping charges were based solely on weight and zip code. This year the postal service went a bit overboard. Now, with this year's increase, the postal service has divided the United States in to 8 zones and all packages are charged by weight, size, and destination zone. This latest increase has added an additional .96 cents to up to $2.83 on packages, depending on their destination. I try to absorb some of the new charges and haven't increased my shipping charges in several years, but that's getting harder with each increase.
To complicate things even further, Google will not promote or show items for sale unless they have a designated cost, or unless the seller uses calculated shipping. My web host is not equipped to figure calculated shipping, so I have to quote a shipping charge using the east coast as the final destination and then refund over payments. When I return the overage, I usually do so by including cash inside the package when it's shipped. My feedback page will show verification that I do return overpayments.
COMBINED SHIPPING INFORMATION
I do combine shipping on multiple items purchased as long as all items can fit safely into a single box. However, my web host does not have the ability to calculate multiple item shipping costs. At checkout, you will be charged full shipping price on each item purchased and I will refund the appropriate amount of overpayment. If you are uncomfortable with any of that, you can send me an email with your zip code and stating which items you'll be purchasing and I'll calculate the correct combined shipping charges and send you a custom invoice.
Due to claims that merchandise is not being received at various international countries (although Customs tracking verifies the delivery), I will no longer be able to process international orders unless payment is made with U.S. currency, including conversion fees. Orders will be processed after funds have cleared a U.S. bank. PAYPAL WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED FOR INTERNATIONAL PURCHASES. Seller reserves the right to void any international transactions where contact has not been made prior to purchasing.
All items in my listings come from either estate or garage sales. I do not know if they came from homes where smoking or pets were present. All items are sold in the same condition as when I received them.
