This is one of six sacred tribal wall art masks that I recently purchased at an estate sale. The lady selling them said they belonged to her parents who moved to the United States in 1957 from Indonesia. She said the parents brought these masks with them at that time.
This listing is for the one single mask that you see in my photo. The others will be in separate listings.
The mask in this listing is considered large in size. The approximate measurements are 13-1/2 inches high, 12 inches side to side, 6 inches front to back at the upper lip. The colors are vibrant, bold and deep. The characters depicted in these masks are guardians or protectors and are often found over doors or windows to keep demons from entering.
There is a label on the back that says Barong Bomi Mask, Java, 9000. I can find info on the internet about Barong Masks, but nothing related to the word Bomi, so possibly that is the name of who carved and painted it. There is also a wire on the back for hanging it on a wall.
CONDITION:
I dont see any problems at all with the piece. I see no cracks, other than slight ones that appear with the normal flow of the wood. There may be tiny white dots where the paint was missed, and if so theyd be about the size of a pencil lead dot. I believe there are two on this piece.
On the back there is a small sliver of wood missing where the wire is going through, but that doesnt show on the front and doesnt affect the integrity of the piece. Also, these were quite dusty when I receive them and I was told they have been packed away for about 10 years. I will dust and clean them as much as I feel I can safely do, but not knowing what to use other than water, you may want to go over them again.
SHIPPING:
Due to the size, shipping through the postal service will be extremely expensive, so this one will have to be shipped via UPS (United Parcel Service) Ground delivery. Google will not include items in their search feature unless they show an actual dollar amount for the shipping cost. The cost that I am stating is for delivery from California to the east coast. If you are not located on or near the east coast, your cost should be less. I'll be happy to refund a portion of my stated costs should you overpay, OR you can send me your zipcode and I can give you an accurate UPS quote and change the shipping amount to reflect the correct charges should you decide to proceed with the purchase.
That being said, buyer to pay no more than $23.95 delivery charges, possibly lower depending on your location.

Items in my listings come from estate sales, garage sales, or various auctions. I do not know if they came from homes where smoking or pets were present. All items are sold in the same condition as when I received them.
