When I purchased this recently at an estate sale, I was told it is a spice shaker. It is very old but in wonderful condition. I did clean it, both in the dish washer and by hand, but my bottle brush will not reach totally inside. There is a slight whiteness inside.
It measures 7 inches long and stands 4 inches tall to the top of the lid. The lid has holes punched into it, but the holes are very small. Depending on what you will use this for, you may want to enlarge those holes. At the opening where the lid screws on, it is a little ruff, not sharp, just ruff.
Sorry about all the reflections and shadows in my photos, this piece was very hard to photograph. Its really a great old item to either be used, or put on a shelf to be admired.
